Donations to GOP drop as worries mount about the party’s finances
As worries about the Republican party’s financial state mount, donations to the GOP have dropped significantly. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Republican National Committee (RNC) saw a 48 percent drop in small-dollar donations in July compared to the same time last year. This comes as President Donald Trump’s financial troubles mount due to multiple lawsuits, including one involving fraud committed by his former personal attorney, Michael Cohen. Concerns surrounding Trump’s financial state have led to a drop in confidence for the party, and donors are consequently reluctant to give money to the RNC. This puts the GOP at a disadvantage for the 2020 elections, as Democrats have dominated in fundraising for the last few months.
