Meet Tom Emmer, the GOP majority whip running for House speaker with McCarthy’s endorsement
Tom Emmer is a Minnesota Republican who has served in the United States House of Representatives since 2015. He is the current House Majority Whip and is running for the position of House Speaker with the backing of current Speaker, Kevin McCarthy.
Emmer has been a vocal supporter of the GOP’s free market, pro-growth, and pro-life agenda throughout his time in Congress. He has been an advocate for lower taxes, less spending and deregulation, as well as the Second Amendment and border security. He has also pushed for legislation to protect religious freedom and parental rights.
In addition, Emmer has advocated for greater economic freedom and job creation through supporting small businesses, making government smarter and more efficient, improving healthcare access and affordability, and enhancing veterans’ access to services. In 2020, he championed rural broadband efforts and funding for school choice programs.
In his campaign for House Speaker, Emmer has proposed continuing McCarthy’s commitment to delivering commonsense conservative reform and pushing back against the “radical agenda” of the Biden administration. He has also vowed to rebuild trust with the American people and show that the GOP is a party of “bold solutions.”
