Cyberattack cost MGM Resorts about $100 million, Las Vegas company says
According to a report by Bloomberg, MGM Resorts International suffered a massive cyberattack in July 2020 costing the company an estimated $100 million. The attack was first detected in July and was determined to have occurred in June. MGM Resorts has said that the attack involved malicious software that accessed the company’s corporate network. The company is still in the process of assessing the full impact of the breach. MGM Resorts spokesperson Brian Ahern said in a statement that “MGM Resorts can confirm that on June 27, 2020, it identified a malicious attack on its corporate network. We immediately took steps to contain the attack, begin an investigation and further strengthen our network defenses.” The statement continued, “The investigation is ongoing, but we can confirm that, to date, we have not seen any evidence of customer data being compromised.”
