Justice Department backs UN claim relief workers accused of aiding Hamas are immune
The U.S. Justice Department has publicly supported the United Nations’ claim that their relief workers, who were accused of aiding the Palestinian organization Hamas, are protected by diplomatic immunity. The accused are members of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). The organization has been accused by an Israeli court of diverting donor funds to Hamas, a move which the UN and the individuals involved firmly deny.
