Supreme Court allows HHS to divert funds over abortion referrals
The Supreme Court recently permitted the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to divert funds from healthcare providers that offer abortion referrals. This decision was borne out of a contentious dispute over a government family planning program called Title X.
Established in 1970, Title X funds various health services including breast cancer screenings, STD tests, and birth control. However, the Trump administration issued a rule in 2019 stating that facilities funded by Title X cannot refer patients to abortion clinics
