Supreme Court restores Louisiana voting map with majority-Black district
On February 7, 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States made a ruling that put back in place a congressional map for Louisiana which included a majority-Black district, which had been previously struck down.
The vote was a 5-4, with the conservative majority of justices in favor of preserving the redistricting plan, while the court’s liberal justices opposed. According to the majority opinion, the state was able to sufficiently defend its redistricting map under the Voting Rights Act
