Maersk halts Red Sea shipping until further notice after Houthi militant attack
Maersk has announced that it will halt all shipping in the Red Sea until further notice following a Houthi militant attack. The attack occurred on July 25, 2020 when two missiles were fired at the M.V. MT Maersk Tanaka, a container vessel. Fortunately, the vessel was able to evade the missiles and all crew members remained safe. Maersk has stated that they are temporarily suspending their shipping route in the region in order to take proactive measures to protect their vessels and personnel. They are also working with international third-party security organizations to throw an increased security presence in the region. The attack is believed to have been orchestrated by Houthi rebels in Yemen, who are currently in the midst of a civil war with the government.
