Trump seeks pause of federal election trial to challenge immunity ruling

At the time of this writing, President Donald Trump has not yet asked for a pause or stay in the federal election trial he is currently facing, nor has he challenged the ruling granting his campaign immunity from certain defamation law claims. However, Trump has previously expressed displeasure with the ruling, which came down on June 11th. In a tweet responding to the decision, Trump wrote, “This is a total sham and con job by the Democrats and their puppet a judge.” Trump’s lawyers have in the past argued that the suit should be dismissed because campaign finance law immunizes the Trump campaign from defamation law claims. Trump has not yet filed a motion for a stay pending appeal, which would be necessary to pause the federal trial.
