Defending his 2020 fraud claims, Trump turns to fringe Jan. 6 theories
Since losing the 2020 presidential election, former President Donald Trump has repeatedly defended his unfounded claims regarding voter fraud and election irregularities. Most recently, Trump and his allies have sought to justify their unsupported fraud claims by relying on fringe theories surrounding the events of January 6th, 2021, when thousands of Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol. Trump and his supporters have alleged that the rioters were mostly peaceful protesters who had been infiltrated by leftist agitators, although there is no evidence that anti-Trump activists orchestrated or encouraged the violence. Further, they have implied that the Capitol insurrection was intended to discredit Trump’s fraud claims, though law enforcement has found no evidence to support this assertion either. Ultimately, these assertions are nothing more than disproven conspiracy theories which provide no factual basis for Trump and his supporters’ accusations of widespread voter fraud.
