Trump lawyers ID election denial’s Patient Zero: Russian interference

In the aftermath of the 2020 US presidential election, the Trump legal team has identified Russian interference campaigns as the Patient Zero of their attempts to deny the election results and have various legal challenges thrown out by the courts. The Trump campaign has argued that it is impossible to determine whether any of its assertions of voter fraud and irregularities have any basis in fact, because Russian interference has artificially inflamed the debate and introduced additional allegations of voter fraud and irregularities into the equation. The Trump team has cited Russia-backed disinformation campaigns, hacking of election targets, and the spread of questionable information on social media as factors that have “poisoned” the conversation and made it nearly impossible to evaluate Trump’s legal challenges objectively.
