DOD says US Navy, Israeli-owned ship not intended target of Houthi missiles
The United States Department of Defense (DoD) has stated that the Israeli-owned ship, which was recently hit by missiles alleged to have been fired by Houthi forces in Yemen, was not the intended target of those missiles. The DoD further stated that the incident appears to be an example of long-range missiles systems being used indiscriminately.
The DoD reiterated the United States’ long-standing call for an end to the violence in Yemen and also for the parties to move forward in implementing a comprehensive, negotiated peace settlement. Pentagon officials also expressed their support for the United Nations Special Envoy of the Secretary General for Yemen’s efforts to bring the parties together and forge a political agreement to end the conflict.
The DoD has not commented on the nature of Israel’s involvement in the incident, but has underscored its commitment to working with all partners in the region to ensure regional security and stability.
