Trudeau blames ‘right-wing, American MAGA’ after Canadian Conservative Party votes against Ukraine bill
Trudeau has blamed “right-wing, American MAGA politics” for the Canadian Conservative Party’s vote against a bill that would recognize Ukraine’s Holodomor famine as genocide. The Prime Minister accused Conservative leader Andrew Scheer of pandering to extremists in the United States who have been pushing “false and misleading” international narratives. Trudeau’s comments, which he made in an address on February 27, come as Canada has increasingly become entangled in the larger global tensions between the United States and Russia. Trudeau stressed the importance of strengthening ties with Ukraine, a member of NATO and a long-standing ally of Canada. He said it had become apparent over the past few years that “there are forces in the world today that would prefer to separate us and separate Ukraine.”
