Body of missing Israeli woman Shani Gabay found, mayor says: ‘Bitter news’
The body of Shani Gabay, the Israeli woman who went missing earlier this week, has been found, according to the mayor of her hometown of Mevaseret Zion.
Mayor Rubi Shafir said the news was “bitter” and that the family was “heartbroken”.
The disappearance of the 22-year-old student sparked a massive search operation, with hundreds of volunteers helping police trawl the area of Jerusalem Israel she was last seen at on Monday.
Tributes have been pouring in for the young woman following the news, with years friends and others who knew her sharing their memories of her and expressing their sadness at her passing.
Shani’s father expressed his anguish to an Israeli TV channel, telling them: “Why was it Shani? Why did it have to happen to our beloved Shani?”
The death of Shani Gabay has sent shockwaves through her community, highlighting once again the dangers faced by women in Israel.
