Trump’s improved image: Is it approval — or amnesia?
The improved image of President Donald Trump is likely attributable to a combination of approval and amnesia. Since taking office, President Trump has made strides to make progress on several major initiatives, such as revising U.S.-China trade imbalances, cutting taxes, and negotiating a trade deal with Canada and Mexico. These moves have garnered support from those both within his own party and from across the aisle.
At the same time, it is likely that amnesia has played a role in President Trump’s improved image. While it is true that he has made some positive accomplishments, many of his past mistakes, controversies, and scandals have been largely forgotten in the public discourse. This amnesia has played a major role in his improved approval rating, allowing the focus to shift away from his many missteps and towards his recent successes.
