Gaza hospital blast: Here’s what we know

On May 23, 2021, a powerful explosion took place at a storage facility and market in the Sabra neighborhood east of Gaza City, leaving at least one dead and several injured, according to Palestinian sources. The exact cause of the blast remains unknown, however, Palestinian security forces have indicated that improper storage and handling of hazardous material may be to blame. The storage facility and market have been completely destroyed and the accompanying debris sent flying across the neighborhood. Already facing a humanitarian crisis due to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the blast only adds to the suffering of Gaza’s residents already displaced by the conflict. It is unclear what the next steps are for the victims of the blast, but it is clear that the civilians of Gaza will continue to live in fear until a lasting peace is found.
