DeSantis, Haley pledge to pardon Trump if he’s convicted

Florida’s Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, and state Attorney General Ashley Moody have both said they will pardon President Donald Trump if he is convicted of any crimes in the future. This comes after reports claimed that Trump’s legal team is looking into the possibility of a pardon for the U.S. president in the event that he is indicted or convicted. DeSantis and Moody vowed that, should this be the case, they would be willing to pardon Trump no matter what charges he faced. It is unclear whether or not DeSantis or Moody have the authority to grant such a pardon as the U.S. Constitution gives the authority exclusively to the federal government and not the state.
