Trump alleges Pelosi turned down 10,000 soldiers ahead of Capitol riot: ‘She’s responsible for Jan. 6’

President Trump’s claim that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi turned down his offer of sending 10,000 additional National Guard troops ahead of the riot at the US Capitol has not been verified. Politico reported that it had obtained a Jan. 5 letter from Pelosi to Trump, in which she requested additional resources, including National Guard and “cut through all red tape to help facilitate the emergency federal support requested by local jurisdictions.” However, the letter does not mention the number of troops, and there has been no independently- verified evidence of the President’s assertion that the Speaker specifically turned down a request for 10,000 troops. Pelosi has also denied the claim. Ultimately, responsibility for the events of Jan. 6 lies with the criminals who perpetrated those acts of violence and lawlessness, and those who encouraged and enabled them.
