Gavin Newsom’s plan for replacing Dianne Feinstein is ‘insulting’ to Black women, California Dem says

California Democratic Assemblywoman Shirley Weber has called Gavin Newsom’s plan to replace Senator Dianne Feinstein with a Black woman “insulting” to the state’s Black women. Weber believes that state representatives such as herself should be given the opportunity to fill Feinstein’s shoes and that Black women should not be considered “second choices” when it comes to political appointments. She has called on other representatives to join her in challenging Newsom’s decision. The decision has also been criticized by other prominent Black women who believe they are being overlooked and that Newsom should have consulted them prior to making his announcement.
